About High Performance Sport

High Performance Sport New Zealand

SPARC’s High Performance unit is now part of High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ). To find out more about HPSNZ go to www.hpsnz.org.nz

New Zealand Track cyclist The New Zealand government invests in, and supports, high performance sport through Sport New Zealand and our subsidiary High Performance Sport New Zealand.

In 2007 the Government has invested $32 million into high performance sport. Ninety per cent of this investment is targeted at and spent on  national sport organisations (NSOs), athletes, or coaches.

How Sport NZ and NSOs work together

Sport NZ and NSOs are formally committed to working together to build the performance of our athletes and teams – sharing information and programmes to reach the same goal, international success.

Each NSO has a performance director/high performance manager who leads the development of a high performance plan – this is the basis of our work together.

High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) also provides services – such as sport science, sports medicine, and education/professional development – to athletes and coaches.

New Zealand Olympic Medalists The High Performance HPSNZ Team

High Performance Sport NZ is responsible for policy, governance, evaluation and monitoring, investment, and high performance advisory services.

The team administers direct investment for international competition, training camps, coaching, athlete support and development.

The HPSNZ team works directly with NSOs to improve their high performance plans and programmes. They also work with national coaches and carded coaches to improve their capability and effectiveness. HPSNZ provides high performance support services to carded athletes.
